Community Engagement

Community engagement has been a key to the success of the Nabugabo Research Site – from developing strong relationships with fishers on the lake to working with local schools on water quality issues to developing indigenous tree planting efforts to working along side farmers on wildlife crop-raiding issues. We encourage all visitors to engage with and support the local community.

The Water Project

In 2014, Dr. Suzanne Gray and colleagues established the Water Project with the local primary school in the village, with the aims of increasing awareness about the connection between humans and water and providing hands-on science experiences for school-age children. The program provides training and support for teachers and in-class and field activities for students throughout the year. In 2021 we held a successful community event for students to display their knowledge to the community.
