Tree Planting

Over the past several years, we have initiated a tree seedlings propagation scheme at the Nabugabo Research Site using endangered tree species seedlings whose seeds were sourced from local community members neighboring National Forest Reserves (e.g., Budongo National Forest Reserve). Planting indigenous tree species aims at multiple objectives – a) reforestation, b) fostering biodiversity since most tropical fauna and plants are host specific, c) habitat for a diverse array of fauna and epiphytes, d) foliage and fruits for primates and other fauna assemblages (insects, birds, amphibians etc…), e) provide a natural ecosystem piece alongside the lake to be accessed by school children for nature based studies and nature walks for the nearby city center dwellers escaping the hustle and bustle of urban life.
